Public Advisory: Motorists Encouraged to Prepare For Winter Driving

Motorists should begin preparing for the winter driving season by ensuring their vehicles are ready for the first snowfall.

Motorists should ensure their vehicles are in good working order, including topping up fluids, ensuring wipers and other equipment are working properly and installing a set of four matching winter tires. Properly inflated, high quality winter tires provide the best traction on winter roads and increase fuel efficiency.

Under the province’s Highway Traffic Act, the use of studded tires is permitted from November 1 to April 30 each year.

Motorists are also encouraged to carry an emergency kit in their vehicle while travelling on the province’s highways, especially in the winter months.
