Mineral Resources Review 2017 Showcases Mineral Exploration and Mining Industry

Mineral Resources Review, taking place this week in St. John’s, showcases the mineral exploration and mining industry in Newfoundland and Labrador. The largest event of its kind in Atlantic Canada, the conference and trade show attracts approximately 700 delegates and exhibitors representing the mining industry over the three-day event.

As part of the conference, there will be a public lecture by Melanie Irvine, project geologist with the Newfoundland and Labrador Geological Survey, a division of the Department of Natural Resources. The lecture, Tide of Change: Weathering the Impacts of a Changing Climate in a World of Uncertainty, is taking place on Thursday, November 2, 7:30 p.m. in the Harbourview Ballroom at the Delta St. John’s and is free and open to the general public.

The annual conference and trade show is a partnership initiative between the Provincial Government’s Department of Natural Resources and the provincial branch of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum. Events include a short course, day technical sessions with government and industry keynotes, core shack displays, a prospectors’ tent, a commercial trade show, a procurement session, and a public lecture.

Quote
“Mineral Resources Review 2017 is an opportunity for us to highlight the work we are doing in the province’s mineral exploration and mining industry which currently employs approximately 5,000 people and is forecast to ship $3.7 billion in minerals in 2017. Through public geoscience, support for prospectors and junior mining companies, and nimble regulation, we are attracting mineral exploration activity and generating new development activity. We are working closely with the mining industry and with communities to attract investment and develop the economy of Newfoundland and Labrador.”
Honourable Siobhan Coady
Minister of Natural Resources
