Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Conception Bay South Microbrewery (Reg. 1935)
Proponent: Ninepenny Brewing Company Inc.

The proponent is proposing to establish and operate a 17.6 hectolitre capacity microbrewery at 75 Conception Bay Highway in the main street commercial district of the Town of Conception Bay South. The microbrewery will be located in an existing building that will be renovated to house the brewery operation and taproom. Operation is expected to be year round, with greatest production during May through October.

The undertaking was registered on November 27, 2017; the deadline for public comments is January 5, 2017; and the minister�s decision is due by January 11, 2018.

UNDERTAKING RELEASED:

St. Lunaire-Griquet Iceberg Trail Development (Reg. 1932)
Proponent: St. Anthony Basin Resources Inc. and the Town of St. Lunaire-Griquet

The project is released subject to the following conditions:

  • The proponent must maintain a minimum 30-metre undisturbed vegetated buffer along all waterbodies and wetlands to protect sensitive riparian and aquatic species and their habitat.
  • To avoid adverse effects to breeding birds in this area, the proponent must avoid land-clearing activities during the breeding season from April 1 to August 30.
  • The threatened moss species Porsild�s Bryum (Haplodontium macrocarpum) may inhabit areas in or adjacent to the project footprint. The proponent must contact the Wildlife Division of the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources prior to the start of trail development to ensure that the trail establishment adheres to protection and recovery requirements for this species and that on the ground personnel comply with the Newfoundland and Labrador Endangered Species Act and the Species at Risk Act.
  • The proponent must provide the details of signage for trail users to the Department of Transportation and Works, including information and warning for review and compliance with national standards, prior to the start of construction.
  • The proponent must provide a maintenance plan including traffic control operations and safe work practices for trails adjacent to roadways on shoulders to the Department of Transportation and Works for review and approval prior to the start of construction.
