Public Advisory: Adverse Weather Conditions Anticipated

The Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment is monitoring Environment and Climate Change Canada forecast information on an approaching system that is expected to track eastward across the island today.

Total rainfall amounts of up to 45 millimetres are forecast for the Southern Shore area of the Avalon Peninsula by Friday morning, while St. John’s and vicinity is forecasted to receive amounts near 25 millimetres. The southeast Avalon and the Burin Peninsula are forecast to receive rainfall amounts of 40 to 80 millimetres.

Rainfall warnings have been issued for Corner Brook and vicinity, Deer Lake-Humber Valley, Green Bay-White Bay and Gros Morne. Total rainfall amounts of up to 50 millimetres are expected in these regions by this afternoon.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Residents are reminded to follow the latest weather forecast for further alert bulletins and to take measures to ensure personal safety.
