Provincial Government Awards Contract for Environmental Assessment of Former Mid-Canada Line Military Radar Sites

The Provincial Government has awarded Stanissu-Stantec Limited Partnership a contract for $247,000 to conduct Phase II Environmental Site Assessments at the former Mid-Canada Line military radar sites in Cartwright and Border Beacon in Labrador. Assessment work is expected to be completed by December 2017.

This work will be used to inform remediation of the sites that could begin as early as next year, pending a new cost-shared agreement with the Federal Government.

The Provincial Government has approved $4 million per year for a five-year cost-shared program with the Federal Government starting in 2018-19 for remediation of former Mid-Canada Line military radar sites in Labrador.
