Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Corner Brook Microbrewery and Tap Room (Reg. 1921)
Proponent: Boomstick Brewing Company

The proponent has submitted a proposal to open a microbrewery at 53-55 West Street in the City of Corner Brook. The microbrewery will occupy a 7,000 square foot portion of a building owned by Major’s Logging Limited. The operation will have a 3,000 hectolitre per year brewing capacity (15-barrel) and include a tap room, growler fill station and retail area.

The undertaking was registered on August 21, 2017; the deadline for public comments is September 26, 2017; and the minister’s decision is due by October 5, 2017.

Burin Microbrewery (Reg. 1920)
Proponent: Rough Waters Brewing Company Ltd.

The proponent is proposing to establish and operate a 12 hectolitre capacity microbrewery at 312 Church Street in the Town of Burin, Burin Peninsula. The beer produced will be made from all natural ingredients (water, yeast, grain and hops) and will have no added preservatives or pasteurization. The microbrewery will be located in an existing building attached to a restaurant and bar and will be operational year round, with peak activity during May through October.

The undertaking was registered on August 15, 2017; the deadline for public comments is September 26, 2017; and the minister’s decision is due by September 29, 2017.

ADDENDUM TO ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT REQUIRED:

Argentia Access Road Industrial Composting Facility (Reg. 1838)
Proponent: Metro Environmental Limited

The minister has advised the proponent that a second addendum to the environmental preview report is required for the above-noted project. The second addendum will provide an air dispersion model to demonstrate potential odour emissions from the facility. During preparation of the second addendum, the proponent will be required to hold a public information session adjacent to or in the geographical area of the undertaking to provide project-related information to the people whose environment may be affected by the undertaking, and to record and respond to public concerns. The public will be invited to provide comments on the second addendum upon its submission.
