Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

South Dildo Cottage Development (Reg.1919)
Proponent: Primac Development Inc.

The proponent proposes to develop 15 cottage lots and an access road along the northeastern shoreline of Dildo Pond near the communities of Blaketown and South Dildo. The cottage lots will be accessed by an approximately 1.3 kilometre road off Route 80 leaving from South Dildo. The development will be approximately 4.45 hectares in size.

The undertaking was registered on August 14, 2017; the deadline for public comments is September 19, 2017; and the minister’s decision is due by September 28, 2017.

APPEAL OF MINISTER’S DECISION EXTENSION:

Harbour Breton Fish Meal Plant (Reg.1874)
Proponent: Barry Group Inc.

On July 12, 2017, the minister received an appeal of the decision to release the above undertaking from further environmental assessment. Under the Environmental Protection Act, the minister is required to respond to the appeal within 30 days. An extension of 30 days has been agreed to by the appellant to respond to the appeal. The appeal document can be viewed on the department’s website at: www.mae.gov.nl.ca/env_assessment/projects/Y2016/1874/. The deadline for public comments has been extended and is now due by August 22, 2017. The minister’s decision on the appeal is due by September 9, 2017.

UNDERTAKING RELEASED:

New Bay Road Trauma Recovery Centre (Reg.1896)
Proponent: Chiron Wellness Centre

The project is released subject to the following condition:

  • A minimum 30-metre naturally-vegetated buffer must be maintained along all waterbodies and wetlands to protect sensitive riparian and aquatic species and their habitat
