Public Advisory: 911 Services Available throughout Newfoundland and Labrador

The Provincial Government is reminding the public that 911 services are accessible throughout the province in the event of an emergency. If residents are unable to use their cell phones or landlines to access 911, they are advised to visit their local fire departments or police detachments directly. It is suggested that residents also identify a working landline that they can use in the case of an emergency.

The Provincial Government has been in contact with Bell Aliant regarding the recent widespread telecommunications outages that affected the province and other parts of Canada. During the outage, the department worked with emergency management partners to ensure the safety of residents and accessibility to services.

Municipalities are reminded to activate their emergency management plans when telecommunications outages occur.
