Provincial Government Participates in Funding Announcement for Water and Wastewater Upgrades in Conception Bay South
Today, Betty Parsley, MHA for Harbour Main, on behalf of the Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, was joined by Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament for Avalon, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure, and Steve Tessier, Mayor of the Town of Conception Bay South, to announce funding to upgrade the Conception Bay South water and sewer system.
The Provincial Government is contributing up to $971,849, while the Federal Government is contributing up to $883,412 to this project. The Town of Conception Bay South will provide the remainder of the cost.
The project includes various lift station updates, improved storm water drainage, increased sewer system capacity, and the water metering infrastructure for monitoring and maintaining infrastructure for Town operations. Collectively, these components will improve and expand the water and wastewater network in the community of over 26,000 residents and more than 600 businesses so that they have clean, potable drinking water, as well as sufficient storm water and sewer service capacity.
Not only will these upgrades ensure that the town can continue to provide quality service to its residents and tourists, they will support local businesses and promote broader economic benefits in the region.
“The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has committed to prioritizing investments in water and wastewater systems that will benefit communities. Residents of the Town of Conception Bay South will increasingly benefit from these enhancements to their water and wastewater network, and our government is pleased to contribute nearly $1 million to improving services and increasing the sustainability of this growing community.”
Honourable Eddie Joyce
Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment
“These vital investments to modernize the water infrastructure in Conception Bay South reflect the Government of Canada’s commitment to building sustainable communities that meet people’s needs now and into the future. We will continue working in close collaboration with our partners to ensure we make smart infrastructure investments that help protect the environment and preserve public health, while paving the way for economic development that creates good jobs and strengthens the middle class.”
Member of Parliament for Avalon, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities
“The Town of Conception Bay South has experienced continued and rapid growth in recent years. As the second largest municipality in Newfoundland and Labrador, we have increased demands on our water and sewer infrastructure. We appreciate the support from both the Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador in helping us provide the highest level of service to both our residents and business community.”
