Media Advisory: Minister Parsons to Work as Correctional Officer in Recognition of Corrections Week

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General will help to promote safety at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary tomorrow (Wednesday, May 10) by joining corrections staff on the front line to experience the work correctional officers do in this province

Minister Parsons will start his shift by unlocking cells and assisting with the serving of the breakfast meal to inmates. The minister will then join correctional officers as they transfer and admit an inmate at the St. John’s City Lockup at 215 Water Street.

Media are invited to join Minister Parsons at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary and the St. John’s City Lockup from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Corrections Week is May 7-13. The week, themed Serving with Excellence, is meant to acknowledge the contribution of correctional staff in promoting rehabilitation and making communities safe.
