Minister Parsons Thanks Retiring Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Chief

The following statement was issued today by the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General:

“Yesterday, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Chief Bill Janes informed me that he would be retiring in June. After 32 years of service to this province, I would like to thank Chief Janes for his contribution to policing in Newfoundland and Labrador. I commend his dedication and commitment to protecting the people of this province, and ensuring the safety and security of our communities.

“There is no higher rank one can achieve at the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary than the Chief of Police, and Chief Janes served in this capacity after taking on the role in February 2014. I would like to wish him all the best in his retirement.

“The process of appointing a new chief will now begin through the Independent Appointments Commission.”
