Release of Parliamentary Calendars
The Speaker of the House of Assembly, the Honourable Tom Osborne, released today the parliamentary calendars for 2017 and 2018, in accordance with the revised Standing Orders approved by the House of Assembly in November 2016.
“A parliamentary calendar brings greater certainty to the sitting times of the Legislature and considers the responsibilities of Members of the House of Assembly and the pressures of the competing demands of their constituency and their roles in the Legislature. The importance of the need for Members to have a balanced family life was also a consideration.”
– Honourable Tom Osborne, Speaker of the House of Assembly
The change to the daily sitting schedule will provide an additional 2.5 hours on Wednesday mornings. It is expected the additional regular sitting hours will significantly reduce the need for night sittings. The calendar will also designate every fourth week as a constituency business week to allow Members adequate time to attend to their constituency duties.
