Residents to Receive Next Payment of the Newfoundland and Labrador Income Supplement
To continue to support low income seniors, individuals, families and persons with disabilities, the next payment for the Newfoundland and Labrador Income Supplement, as well as the enhanced Newfoundland and Labrador Seniors’ Benefit, will be issued this week.
Direct deposit payments will be made on Wednesday, April 5, the same day cheques will be sent in the mail. Since the program was implemented last July, 155,000 families/individuals have benefited through the new Newfoundland and Labrador Income Supplement and the enhanced Newfoundland and Labrador Seniors’ Benefit.
Qualified individuals do not need to apply and will automatically receive the benefit - eligibility is determined based on their 2015 income tax information. Both the Newfoundland and Labrador Seniors’ Benefit and Newfoundland and Labrador Income Supplement will be added to the recipient’s GST credit cheque or direct deposit payment.
“The Newfoundland and Labrador Income Supplement and the enhanced Seniors’ Benefit programs were both designed to provide the appropriate supports to help protect our low income seniors, families and individuals, especially in the face of the fiscal circumstances our province is facing. Our government will continue to provide supports that help the most vulnerable throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.”
Honourable Cathy Bennett
Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board
“We understand the challenges our province faces with a rapidly aging population, and our government has a plan to ensure we are prepared for the demographic change through smarter spending and sustainable investments. A number of these investments are already positively impacting the lives of seniors in our province such as the Newfoundland and Labrador Income Supplement and enhanced Seniors’ Benefit.”
Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh
