Public Advisory: Dates Set to Discuss Forest Management Plans in District 19

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources will hold public consultation sessions for the preparation of a new five-year operating plan located in Forest Management District 19. The intent of the sessions is to obtain feedback on proposed forestry activity.

Under the Forestry Act, the department is legislated to meet with public stakeholders while developing five-year operating plans for forest management districts and zones in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The public consultation sessions will be held June 14 at the College of the North Atlantic Campus in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and June 15 at the Labrador Interpretation Centre in North West River. Both meetings are 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The meetings provide the opportunity for participants to give input on the potential environmental effects of proposed forestry activities on the social, economic and recreational conditions associated with the forest resource. The process is consistent with the Provincial Government's sustainable forest management strategy and the principle of sustainable development.
