$3.25 Million Committed to Provincial Agrifoods Program

Farmers and producers in Newfoundland and Labrador can now apply for funding under the Provincial Agrifoods Assistance Program.

The program provides financial assistance to eligible applicants involved in primary or secondary processing activities that will improve the economic viability of the province’s agriculture and agrifoods industry. In 2017-18, funding will be provided for land development and agriculture infrastructure.

The application deadline is May 12, 2017.

Budget 2017 commits $3.25 million to the Provincial Agrifoods Assistance Program for the continued development of agriculture land, to grow the industry and improve food self-sufficiency.

Quote
“Traditionally, there is a very strong uptake for this program which provided $2.8 million to Newfoundland and Labrador farmers and producers in 2016-17. The Provincial Agrifoods Assistance Program will continue to help us achieve our goal of becoming more food self-sufficient as laid out in The Way Forward. Our goal is to increase food self-sufficiency to at least 20 per cent by 2022.”
Honourable Steve Crocker
Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources
