Premier Ball Announces $38.8 Million for Municipal Infrastructure
The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced $38.8 million for projects that will support significant improvements in municipal infrastructure, as well as bring benefits to residents and businesses. The money is being allocated under the Small Communities Fund and provincial Municipal Capital Works program.
Premier Ball made the announcement in Botwood where he was joined by the Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment; Jerry Dean, MHA for Exploits; and Scott Simms, Member of Parliament for Coast of Bays-Central-Notre Dame on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities.
Approximately $29.3 million has been allocated for 77 projects under the Small Communities Fund for municipal infrastructure projects. The provincial share in these projects will be $17.4 million and the federal share is $11.9 million.
Through these investments, a wide variety of community-oriented projects have been approved, including:
- The Town of Botwood’s sewage system upgrades;
- The Town of Stephenville’s upgrades to its water and sewer system;
- The Town of Paradise’s upgrades to its road system; and
- Husky Energy Easter Seals House’s fully-accessible and inclusive community park.
Premier Ball and Minister Joyce also announced $9.5 million has been allocated for 28 communities under the new provincial Municipal Capital Works program. Funding information regarding the provincial-municipal cost-shared projects is provided in the backgrounder below.
A complete list of projects is enclosed in the backgrounder.
