Premier Ball Attending National Meeting of Premiers in Edmonton

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, is in Edmonton, Alberta, where he is joining Canada’s premiers to discuss a series of issues of national importance. The premiers will meet today (Tuesday, July 18) and tomorrow.

At the meetings, premiers will discuss a number of economic and social topics including Canada-United States relations, global trade and infrastructure, as well as such issues as criminal justice reform, opioids and the legalization of cannabis.

In addition to these issues, Premier Ball will be raising a number of topics that are important to Newfoundland and Labrador. They include:

  • The economy and job creation;
  • Opportunities for investment in infrastructure and skills training; and
  • Continued collaboration on energy issues, including developing clean, renewable energy and an effective environmental review processes.

The Council of the Federation comprises all 13 provincial and territorial premiers. It enables premiers to work collaboratively, form closer ties, foster constructive relationships among governments, and show leadership on important issues that matter to Canadians.
