Premier Appoints Robert Gardiner as
Deputy Minister of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development
Today, the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, together with the Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, announced that Robert Gardiner has been appointed to the role of deputy minister with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role with his background in both the post-secondary and K-12 school systems. We are fortunate to have him join the team.”

Mr. Gardiner previously spent over 12 years with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador in various capacities within the Department of Education. In 2013 he was assistant deputy minister for the Department of Advanced Education and Skills. He most recently was appointed as Interim President/CEO of the College of the North Atlantic.
“Mr. Gardiner will be a valuable addition to the department as we move forward with our focus on the Premier’s Task Force on Educational Outcomes with the goal to improve learning opportunities for our students. His background as an educator and administrator will reinforce our commitment through the task force to ensuring our education system reflects the needs of students and educators.”

BACKGROUNDER
Biography of Robert Gardiner
After a 14 year teaching career, Robert Gardiner joined the Department of Education in September 2001, where he held several senior leadership positions. In April 2013, Mr. Gardiner was appointed assistant deputy minister for Post-Secondary Education with the Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour. Since August 2016, Mr. Gardiner has also been Interim President/CEO of College of the North Atlantic. Mr. Gardiner has a Masters Degree in Education, a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education from Memorial University.
