Minister Kirby joins Juniper Ridge Intermediate in Celebrating Official Opening

Teachers, staff and students today celebrated the official opening of Juniper Ridge Intermediate, a new Grade 5-7 school located in Torbay. The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, toured the new school today and was joined by representatives of the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District and School Board, school administration and members of the community.

Juniper Ridge Intermediate can accommodate approximately 700 students and current enrollment is 543. The school includes 31 classrooms, a gymnasium, a stage, a lunch/multipurpose room with a commercial kitchen, a learning resource centre, a science lab, a computer lab and two music rooms. The total investment in the new school was approximately $23 million.

Budget 2017 included considerable investment in new and ongoing supports for education and educational environments. The department is currently developing an Education Action Plan that will help inform decisions for Budget 2018 and the future of education in our province.
