Minister Kirby Recognizes the Hard Work of Students and Educators as Summer Break Begins

The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, congratulates students, teachers and staff across the province and wishes them a safe and enjoyable summer.

Today is the official last day of school for students attending K-12 in Newfoundland and Labrador with approximately 67,000 students having completed the school year in the province.

The end of the 2016-17 school year also marks the successful completion of the first year of full-day Kindergarten in the province in 173 schools under the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District (NLESD) and six schools with Conseil scolaire francophone provincial de Terre-Neuve (CSFP). In total there were 361 Kindergarten classes between NLESD and CSFP with 4,683 children registered for full-day Kindergarten in 2016-17.

The 2017-18 K-12 school year starts on September 6, 2017.
