Minister Kirby Congratulates Teachers, Students and Schools on a Successful First Year of Full-Day Kindergarten

In September 2016, full-day Kindergarten was implemented in schools throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

As the school year comes to a close, the Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, is extending appreciation to teachers, administrators, students, staff and families and thanking them for their dedication in making a smooth transition to full-day Kindergarten in the province.

The implementation of full-day Kindergarten is a significant milestone for the education system in our province. It is a key step in the continued development of young minds, helping build a more solid foundation for future success. To date, feedback from teachers, parents and students has been very positive.

“I applaud the hard work that has taken place in our schools to implement full-day Kindergarten, and congratulate teachers and students on a successful year. Providing full-day Kindergarten across the province has been a significant progressive step to support the educational foundation of our youngest students as they learn and develop. Our government is very pleased with the success of the program and we look forward to seeing the long-term impacts on our children.”

“Kindergarten is an important year for students as they attend school for the first time, make new friends, and learn a tremendous amount; I congratulate them on their success. Thank you to teachers and staff throughout our district for their efforts this year in implementing full-day Kindergarten, along with parents and guardians for the dedication and involvement in their child’s education; the most critical component of student success.”
