Provincial Government Celebrates Foster Families Week
Yesterday, the Provincial Government, along with the Newfoundland and Labrador Foster Families Association and foster families throughout the province, celebrated the kick-off to National Foster Families Week, which takes place October 15-21. National Foster Families Week is held annually during the third week of October.
The Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development works closely with the Newfoundland and Labrador Foster Families Association to recruit and support foster parents and recognizes the vital role they play in our province.
There are approximately 605 foster families located throughout Newfoundland and Labrador dedicated to helping children and youth by providing safe and nurturing homes.

Quotes
“We have a wonderful community of foster families who willingly open their hearts and homes to children and youth during a time in their lives when they need it most. I thank foster families, social workers and staff of the Foster Families Association who make such a difference in the lives of children and youth. Also, I encourage anyone who is interested in becoming a foster parent to please reach out to help us meet the demand for foster families.”
Honourable Lisa Dempster
Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development
“Foster Families Week is a time to celebrate the contributions that foster families make to the well-being of children and youth in our province. It is a time to show appreciation to all those families who accept the awesome responsibility of caring for other people’s children and supporting their families as they strive to overcome challenges in their lives. Foster families are the heart of the child protection program and there are no words to adequately express the gratitude they deserve.”
