Provincial Government Accepting Applications for 2018 Arts and Letters Awards Program

The Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation is accepting applications for the 66th annual Arts and Letters Awards Program. As part of the Provincial Government’s commitment to improved service delivery, for the first time ever, submissions for the program will only be accepted in digital format. The deadline for entries is December 15.

The Arts and Letters Awards Program encourages artistic creation by Newfoundland and Labrador artists by providing an opportunity to submit works for adjudication at an annual competition. Works are recognized through the awarding of monetary prizes and the exhibition of deserving entries. Original creative work in literature, music, visual art, and digital multimedia are eligible.

As part of The Way Forward, the Provincial Government is committed to making service delivery improvements to provide more ways for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to access provincial services. This includes moving to a digital-by-design model.

Quote
“For past 65 years, the Arts and Letters Awards Program has provided an important avenue for the encouragement and celebration of our citizens’ creative talent. I am pleased that this year, for the first time, the program is moving to digital delivery. Not only will this reduce our reliance on a paper-based application culture, but it will open the program to a greater number of artists wherever they reside in our province.”
Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore
Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation
