The Rooms Reduces Administrative Costs to Offer More Visual Arts Exhibitions to Visitors and Residents

The Rooms Corporation is pleased to announce that Anne Chafe, Director of the Museum Division of The Rooms, will be adding administrative leadership of the Art Gallery Division to her current duties. Ms. Chafe has been a senior member of the Management Committee of The Rooms for many years and with the completion of permanent exhibits in all four museum galleries last summer, Ms. Chafe will now play a larger role in the overall administration of The Rooms.

Ms. Chafe holds a Master’s degree in Museum Studies from the University of Toronto, Canada’s leading graduate program in the administration of public arts and cultural institutions including art galleries. She held senior administrative positions in the arts and culture sector in Ontario before returning to her home province to join The Rooms in 2007.

As part of its plan to increase the number of visual arts exhibitions presented at The Rooms and across the province, The Rooms will hire a second curator immediately and increase the Art Gallery's exhibition budget by $50,000. The Rooms has also applied for additional funding from the Canada Council for the Arts in order to increase its contemporary visual arts programming.

“The hiring of a second Curator of Visual Arts and the significant increase in the Art Gallery's exhibition budget will result in more exhibitions and support for the province's visual artists, thereby strengthening the mandate of The Rooms to engage both visitors and residents with the extraordinary visual arts of our province.”
Tom Foran
Chair, The Rooms Board of Directors

“The Rooms is making every effort to re-direct as much revenue as we possibly can to programs that will engage visitors and residents with the visual art and history of our province. This focus will provide many more exhibition opportunities for the province’s artists while generating additional resources for the stewardship of the provincial collections under our care.”
