Federal and Provincial Governments Invest in Marina Development Studies in Springdale

Investments from the Governments of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada are enabling the Town of Springdale to carry out further studies for its proposed marina development. The studies will provide additional data to support the marina feasibility study and engineering plan completed in 2015 and strengthen the town’s decision-making process to ensure a successful marina development.

The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, today announced a $29,563 investment in the project from the department’s Regional Development Fund, while Scott Simms, Member of Parliament for Coast of Bays-Central-Notre Dame, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, announced a federal contribution of $72,000 from ACOA’s Business Development Program.

ThroThrough this project, the Town of Springdale will hire expertise to undertake a geotechnical study to determine the subsurface conditions for the marina’s wharf and breakwater. In addition, a detailed study of the harbor seafloor using seabed mapping technology will be carried out to support the design of the marina facilities and ensure safe vessel passage. This will involve assessing seabed conditions and water depths. Results from these studies will help the town determine how best to proceed with the marina development in terms of project size and scope.
