Supporting Enhanced Tourism Marketing Opportunities in Bonavista Area

In keeping with the Provincial Government’s commitment to supporting the tourism industry, the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, today announced a combined investment of more than$52,000 for four tourism companies in the Bonavista area.

The Artisan Inn, located in Trinity, received $22,500 from the Business Development Support Program to assist with marketing and training initiatives including the development of a new marketing plan, website, social media plan and updated marketing materials. Through this support, the Artisan Inn is hoping to increase the occupancy rate in the shoulder season months. Funding is provided from the Business Development Support Program and is matched by the company.

The Trinity Historical Society Inc. received a $20,000 Business Investment Program loan to support the Cultural Craft Development Project, a partnership between four organizations - Bonaventure to English Harbour Development Association (Trinity Crafts), Cape Random Trust Inc., Home from the Sea Foundation, and the Sir William Ford Coaker Heritage Foundation. This will allow participating shops the financial flexibility to purchase cultural craft that would otherwise be unavailable to them, leading to increased sales and an improved visitor experience for customers.

Bonavista Adventure Tours, a start-up company offering guided tours in Bonavista, received $5,000 to assist with the development of a website, logo, signage and marketing materials. Funding is provided from the Business Development Support Program and is matched by the company.

Bonavista Puffin & Whale Boat Tours Ltd., a new start-up company in Bonavista, is located at the Matthew Legacy and offers boat tours. Through an investment of $5,000, the company will develop marketing materials, such as logo, website, brochures and signage, as well as a social media policy. Funding is provided from the Business Development Support Program and is matched by the company.

“The world we do business in is constantly changing around us. Receiving this financial support, for both marketing and training, will help us promote our business and region in more modern ways, work with other operators to extend the shoulder season and employment on the Bonavista Peninsula, and provide our staff with the necessary tools to deliver the experiences visitors to Newfoundland and Labrador are seeking.”

“Trinity Historical Society was very pleased to be able to avail of a loan for the Cultural Craft Partners on the Bonavista Peninsula. The loan allows us to use our cash flow wisely to carry out the day-to-day activities of our tourism operations while still stocking our shelves with quality products that visitors to our historic sites can purchase as reminders of their visits to our region and province. Without the approval of this loan, we would not be able to successfully operate our stores. We are very appreciative to the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation for the Business Investment Program.”

“With the help of our grant, we were able to exceed our marketing expectations for our start-up year and it gave us the ability to expand our marketing range.”
