Provincial Government Investing in Destination Management Organizations

As part of Tourism Awareness Week 2017, Colin Holloway, Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, today announced $600,000 for the province’s Destination Management Organizations.

Each of the four regional Destination Management Organizations will receive $150,000:

  • Legendary Coasts - Eastern Destination Management Organization
  • Adventure Central - Central Destination Management Organization
  • Go Western - Western Destination Management Organization
  • Destination Labrador

These four organizations are partnership-based, not-for-profit industry associations that engage with tourism operators and stakeholders in their respective regions, and provide market readiness, destination development and marketing support to their members and partners.

Quote
"As a government, we remain committed to maximizing the economic benefits that tourism brings to our province. Through close working relationships with tourism partners, such as the four regional Destination Management Organizations, we can continue to increase visitation to the province and provide our visitors with experiences that enrich their time here and entice them to stay longer. In keeping with the commitment we made in The Way Forward, this is one of many ways we are helping the provincial tourism industry reach its target of $1.6 billion in annual resident and non-resident visitor spending by 2020.”
Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore
Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation

“The Bonavista region is a showpiece for tourism in Newfoundland and Labrador, with significant built heritage and historic sites that offer value for visitors. I am very pleased to see these investments in tourism in every region of our province. I can speak firsthand to the economic benefits of tourism, and these investments will go a long way towards securing the long-term sustainability of this dynamic industry.”

“The regional Destination Management Organizations are strategic partners on the Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism Board. The staff work closely with tourism operators on destination development, market readiness and marketing in order to ensure Newfoundland and Labrador’s tourism industry is well-equipped to market and deliver unforgettable experiences that align with our provincial brand promise. As we get closer to 2020 and achieving our industry’s goal of increasing visitor spending to $1.6 billion annually (Vision 2020), regional and provincial support organizations continue to play an important role.”
