Investing in Heritage Organizations to Launch Tourism Awareness Week 2017
Tourism Awareness Week is being celebrated across Canada from May 28 to June 3. Throughout this week, national and provincial tourism industry leaders are working to promote the profile of the tourism industry as a long-term solution for local economies.
To help launch this week, the Provincial Government is investing $886,800 through the Cultural Economic Development Program to over 100 entities, including Admiralty House Communications Museum. This program provides operational funding for community heritage organizations such as museums, archives, and historical societies.
In addition, the Cultural Economic Development Program aims to increase and enhance the preservation, presentation, and sustainability of heritage resources, as well as increases the relevance of heritage organizations to their communities, province and region through increased social and economic contributions.
As outlined in The Way Forward: A Vision for Sustainability and Growth in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Provincial Government is committed to helping industry players achieve their goal of doubling resident and non-resident visitor spending by 2020.
