Interim Board of Directors Appointed for Marble Mountain Development Corporation

Nine new members have been appointed to comprise the Interim Board of the Marble Mountain Development Corporation. These appointments are effective immediately to begin implementation on a new operating model for the Marble Mountain Ski Resort.

The interim chair of the board is Tony Abbott, who is the Operational Manager of the Marble Mountain Ski Resort. Other members of the interim board include:

  • Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation Representatives: Carmela Murphy, Ben Gardner, Carol-Ann Gilliard, Gillian Skinner, Jeff Mercer, and Stewart Read
  • Department of Finance Representative: Craig Martin
  • City of Corner Brook Representative: James Pike

In accordance with the Independent Appointments Commission Act, a merit-based appointment process will be used to seek new members for the Marble Mountain Development Corporation Board.

The department is currently undertaking an operational review of Marble Mountain with a focus on extending the winter season; expanding hours of operation; adopting new technologies; and, improving customer experiences, with the goal of maximizing the visitor experience and making Marble Mountain operations financially self-sufficient.

It is important that the Marble Mountain Development Corporation put more focus on increasing visitation and revenues at Marble Mountain, as well as exploring new revenue streams and opportunities on the hill, in the lodge and with regard to further base development.

In appreciation of all patrons and recognizing the current snow conditions, the Marble Mountain Ski Resort will reopen for the Easter Weekend from April 14 to 16.
