Media Advisory: Christmas Lights Across Canada Celebration Taking Place This Evening

Members of the media are advised that the 30th annual Christmas Lights Across Canada celebration will take place this evening, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Confederation Building, East Block.

The Honourable Cathy Bennett, Minister of Finance, and the Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Transportation and Works, will participate in this year's event on behalf of the Provincial Government.

The lights will be activated by nine-year old Grace Moores, along with her great-grandfather, Second World War veteran Chesley Bull, grandparents Wilf and Marion Hunt, and mother Christa Moores.

Entertainment will be provided by the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Band, Larkhall Academy Elementary School Choir, along with the Mary Queen of Peace Student Leadership Team. Refreshments will be served after the Christmas lights have been illuminated.

The Christmas Lights Across Canada ceremony is an annual event where each province and territory decorates its capital city and holds its own lighting ceremony. At the event, approximately 60,000 LED lights will be lit on the Christmas tree in front of the Confederation Building, and along Prince Phillip Drive. The initiative contributes to a nationwide effort to symbolically link Canadians together for the holiday season.
