Supporting Transportation Infrastructure and Economic Growth

Minister Outlines Road Work in the Central Region for 2016-17 Construction Season

Through the Provincial Roads Program, seven road maintenance and rehabilitation tenders have been issued with work getting underway throughout the central region this construction season. The tenders are a result of a $62 million investment in the program this year.

"Despite our current fiscal situation, this government recognizes that strategic investments in key areas such as transportation infrastructure are critical to the economic growth and overall well-being of our province. The road maintenance and rehabilitation projects being undertaken in the central region this construction season were identified and selected based on criteria such as safety, condition, class, economic impact, preventive value and bundling opportunities. These projects will help ensure a safe and reliable transportation network in the region."
- The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Transportation and Works

Through the 2016-17 Provincial Roads Program, the following work will take place in the Central region:

  • Pulverize and pave 7.3 kilometres of Route 330, Gander Bay Road, from Barry's Brook to Main Point;
  • Replace culverts on Route 410 - Dorset Trail at the Flatwater Pond area, and raise road grade to accommodate new multiple structures to prevent flooding;
  • Construct a new aluminum box culvert with concrete retaining walls at Straight Shore Bridge on Route 330;
  • Safety improvements at Magee Road and TCH intersection, including new signage and turning lane realignment;
