Provincial Government Announces Complete List of Road Work for 2016-17
All road projects under the Provincial Roads Program to be tendered for the 2016-17 construction season were announced today by the Provincial Government. As part of Budget 2016, $62 million is allocated to support the Provincial Roads Program this construction season. Tenders will begin to be issued this week.
Todays announcement marks a significant advancement in the way road work is announced and tendered. The full list of road projects for the season has not only been identified and announced, but will be tendered in a timely manner to the advantage of the construction industry, communities and all residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. This builds on the early tenders announced last month, delivering on our commitment to have projects tendered as early as possible to take full advantage of our short construction season.
- The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Transportation and Works
On March 21, Minister Hawkins announced $10 million in road work which is part of the $62 million Provincial Roads Program. There are also numerous projects valued at $55 million in provincial and cost-shared funding that are continuing from previous years. In addition, the province continues to work with the Federal Government to identify potential cost-shared projects, seeking flexibility on program guidelines with a view to leveraging as much federal funding as possible under the new Building Canada Fund. The full list of 2016-17 projects under the Provincial Roads Program, including early tenders announced last month and those continuing from previous years can be viewed at www.tw.gov.nl.ca/TenderingandContracts/.
Road projects are now being assessed and determined based on research, evidence and evaluation. This new approach prioritizes projects according to criteria such as safety, conditions, class, economic impact, preventive value and bundling opportunities.

Tenders will be posted electronically at www.tw.gov.nl.ca/TenderingandContracts/scripts/SelectReportCriteria.asp
A multi-year transportation infrastructure plan is being developed and will be brought forward for public consultations prior to being released publicly this fall. It will list projects for the next five years, serve as a cost-saving measure for government and allow tenders to be issued as early as January in subsequent years.
