Repairs to Route 463 on the Port au Port Peninsula Progressing
Pipes required for repairs to Route 463 (West Bay - Victor's Brook) are arriving in Abrahams Cove today with all required pipes expected by Friday, April 15, from St. John's. Repairs are anticipated to get underway this weekend.
An emergency tender was called for the repair work and will close on Friday. While full repairs and paving will take some time, it is expected full traffic flow will be re-established early next week.
"Transportation and Works crews took preventative steps on Route 463 in anticipation of the heavy rain and have been actively addressing the damage in the area of Hull's Brook, Three Mile Rock and West Bay - Victor's Brook. We are working to complete repairs on an urgent basis recognizing the extra travel now required due to the damage."
- The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Transportation and Works
Motorists are advised to use caution on Route 463, and to pay attention to directional signage and the crews completing repairs.
"The damage caused by heavy rain last weekend has created difficulties for residents along Route 463, especially for those in the area of West Bay - Victor's Brook, as they adjust their daily schedules to accommodate the longer driving times. I have been working closely with officials and regional staff with Transportation and Works and thank all residents of the impacted area for their patience."
- John Finn, MHA for Stephenville - Port au Port
There were no communities or homes cut off by the road washouts and motorists have access to alternate routes in all of the damaged areas.
