Celebrating the Contributions of Older Adults

Nominations Open for Seniors of Distinction Awards

Individuals, groups and organizations are encouraged to submit nominations for the 2016 Seniors of Distinction Awards, a program which recognizes and celebrates the contributions, achievements and diversity of seniors throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The deadline for submission is April 4, 2016.

The Seniors of Distinction Awards acknowledge and celebrate the meaningful contributions seniors make in our society. It is important that we recognize and show our appreciation for the valuable roles they perform in our communities.
- The Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development

To be eligible, a senior must be nominated by an individual or group, must be 50 years of age or older, and be a current or past resident of Newfoundland and Labrador. Nominees will be considered for both voluntary and paid work, and nominations from last year will be reviewed again this year at the request of the nominee. Posthumous awards may also be given.

The Seniors of Distinction Awards Program is an initiative of the Provincial Healthy Aging Policy Framework. The framework aims to recognize older persons, celebrate diversity, support communities, encourage health and financial well-being, and support employment, education and research.
