New Heating Systems Improve St. Johns Social Housing

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (NLHC) has awarded a $128,000 contract to Eastern Sheet Metal Works Ltd. to upgrade heating systems in five St. Johns buildings containing 30 social housing units.

These heating system upgrades will provide an estimated 30 per cent savings and help increase the energy efficiency of the properties. Modernization and improvement work such as this helps ensure a continued supply of quality, affordable social housing for the future.
- The Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation

Work on the homes, located at Cowperthwaite, Keegan, Mitchell and Stabb Courts, will include removal and replacement of existing heating systems, including furnaces and components. The project is expected to be completed by February 2016.

I am pleased to see this work being undertaken to improve heating systems in these homes. It is important that we continue to upgrade and maintain our public housing assets to make them more cost-efficient, while better serving the needs of tenants.
- The Honourable Dale Kirby, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development and MHA for Mount Scio
