Occupational Health and Safety Charges Laid in Roofing Incident

A company has been charged with violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations arising from a roofing incident that occurred in Bay Roberts on October 6, 2014. The incident involved two employees who suffered fatal injuries, and three others who suffered various injuries resulting from an electrical contact. The investigation was conducted by the Occupational Health and Safety Branch of Service NL.

The employer, Dunrite Roofing Limited, which is located in Spaniard's Bay, has been charged with three counts that allege generally that it failed:

  • To provide a safe workplace and equipment that is without risk to the workers;
  • To maintain a safe distance from conductors; and
  • To obtain assurance from the owner of the power system when a safe distance from the conductors cannot be maintained.

The first appearance is scheduled for August 31, 2016, at Provincial Court in Harbour Grace.
