Occupational Health and Safety Charges Laid Against Industrial Firm

Service NL announced today that McCurdy Ready Mix Limited has been charged with violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations in relation to an incident that occurred in July of 2014. The charges are the result of an investigation by the Occupational Health and Safety Branch.

The incident, in which there were no injuries, occurred at a quarry located east of Benton.

The company has been charged with seven violations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, which relate generally to its alleged failure to:

  • Ensure that rock crushing equipment was maintained and fitted with guarding, fire extinguishers and dust suppression; and
  •  Cooperate with an occupational health and safety officer.

The first appearance is scheduled for September 6, 2016 at Provincial Court in Gander.
