Public Advisory: Residents Encouraged to Check Expiry of Vehicle Registrations and Licences

Due to the possibility of an interruption in postal service, Service NL encourages residents to check the expiry dates associated with their vehicle registrations and drivers licence, as the Provincial Government will be unable to send reminder notices or completed registration materials if postal service is disrupted. Vehicle registration stickers indicate the month a vehicle registration will expire. Vehicle registrations must be renewed by the last day of that month. The expiry date for a drivers licence is printed on the card. Licences must be renewed by this expiry date.

Service NL also reminds residents that they can conveniently renew their vehicle registration and drivers licence online at www.gov.nl.ca/drive. The online renewal process features a secure, simple, and quick process that takes people through the steps of logging in, updating their personal information, providing payment, and then receiving their receipt. In the event of a postal service interruption, the printed receipt will serve as proof of renewal until official documents can be sent to the individual who has renewed. It should also be noted that once an online renewal is completed, Service NL records are immediately updated so that law enforcement officials have ready access to accurate information about registrations and licenses.

Residents receive a $10 discount for renewing their drivers licence online and receive a $20 discount for renewing their vehicle registration online.

Should residents choose to renew in person at a Government Service Centre, Service NL cautions residents that they may experience higher than usual wait times due to potential increases in traffic volumes. Wait times are typically longest during lunch hours and during the last week of the month.
