Public Advisory: Residents Advised of Smoke Alarm Recall

The public is advised of a Health Canada recall involving smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. This recall involves Kidde NightHawk talking combo smoke/CO alarm KN-COSM-IBCA and KN-COSM-ICA models with manufacture dates between June 1, 2004, and March 2011. The alarms are hard-wired into a homes electric powers.

Health Canada advises that the alarm can fail to continue to chirp when it reaches its seven-year end of life if the batteries are replaced or, for the model without a battery backup, if power is removed and then restored to the alarm. This could lead homeowners to believe the alarm is still working, which poses a risk to residents not being alerted to a fire or carbon monoxide incident in their home.

There have been no reported incidents to Health Canada or Kidde related to this product.

Consumers are asked to stop using the recalled alarms and contact Kidde Canada directly for a free replacement or a discount on a new alarm. For additional information, residents can call Kidde Canada at 1-855-239-0490 or at www.kiddecanada.com external.
