Supporting Municipal Infrastructure
Funding Announced for Repairs to Dam and Spillway in Harbour Grace
The Governments of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada are contributing more than $365,000 to rehabilitate the Bannerman Lake dam in Harbour Grace. The investment is part of both governments' commitment to supporting economic development and creating new jobs.
The funding was announced by the Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs, and Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament for Avalon, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities.
"This project funding for upgrades to the dam and spillway in Harbour Grace maintain key community infrastructure, and will ensure residents in the town enjoy a high standard of water quality for years to come. The Provincial Government will continue to invest in new and existing municipal infrastructure projects to ensure all residents and their families have the best quality of life."
- The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs
Work involves replacing the deteriorating spillway at Bannerman Lake with an upgraded dam that will better regulate the flow of water into the town's current water system. This will ensure safe drinking water, and enable vital maintenance to key community infrastructure.
"The Government of Canada recognizes that a solid partnership with all orders of government is integral to supporting infrastructure projects that support the middle class and those working hard to join it. I'm very pleased to see this new funding program at work in the Town of Harbour Grace, supporting clean water and waste water projects that will contribute to the long-term health and prosperity of residents for generations to come."
- Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament for Avalon, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities
The Government of Canada is contributing up to $228,542 to this project through the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund, representing 50 per cent of the estimated $457,084 total eligible project cost. The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador will contribute $137,125 to the project and the Town of Harbour Grace providing the remaining $91,417.
