Regional Governance Advisory Committee Discusses Guiding Principles
The Regional Governance Advisory Committee continues to provide advice on the principles and main components of a potential regional governance model for Newfoundland and Labrador.
"Our government heard during the Premier's Forum on Local Government about the need to move
towards regionalization in Newfoundland and Labrador. The feedback we received highlights the
desire to think regionally in order to help sustain rural communities for the future."
- The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs
The nine-member committee recently met to discuss guiding principles to: enhance and support current local governments; facilitate regional services; build capacity and assist local governments to make them stronger and more sustainable; and enhance and support economic and industrial development.
"We need to make communities more sustainable, efficient and effective in delivering services to
residents for the future. The advisory committee will explore ways to find the right model that
will help rural areas continue to support, maintain and grow their communities."
- Minister Joyce
Members of the Regional Governance Advisory Committee are consulting with their stakeholders and organizations on the guiding principles discussed, and will present feedback at the next meeting in November. Meetings will occur monthly and will inform the public consultations scheduled for spring 2017.
