Enhancing Safety for Residents

Minister Joyce Announces New Firefighting Vehicle for Town of McIvers

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs, today announced funding for a new firefighting vehicle for the Town of McIvers. The new vehicle will improve the community’s capacity to deliver fire and emergency services to residents and businesses.

“The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is pleased to provide a funding commitment to the Town of McIvers for the purchase of a new pumper truck as part of the 2016-17 Fire Protection Vehicle Program. This new truck will help support fire and emergency services in the region and will ensure that volunteer firefighters have a state-of-the-art apparatus to perform their duties safely and effectively.”
- The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs

Through 90/10 cost-share arrangement, with the Provincial Government paying the larger portion of the cost, McIvers will receive a new four-door pumper truck that seats five firefighters, operates on a six-cylinder diesel engine, and features a 1,000-gallon tank with foam capacity.

This new truck is the final fire protection vehicle to be announced through the 2016-17 Fire Protection Vehicle Program. New fire truck commitments were previously announced in Change Islands, Holyrood, Isle aux Morts, Jackson’s Arm and St. Anthony. The trucks will go to tender this year and are anticipated to be delivered in fall 2017.

Budget 2016 includes approximately $1.5 million for the purchase of new fire protection vehicles throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
