Minister Joyce Announces New Fire Truck for St. Anthony
The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs, was in St. Anthony today with the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development and MHA for St. Barbe - L'Anse aux Meadows, to announce a new fire truck for that community.
Todays announcement of a new walk-in rescue unit for the Town of St. Anthony is a step forward for fire and emergency services in the community. The St. Anthony Volunteer Fire Department is very active, and the addition of a new truck to its fleet will greatly enhance its ability to provide an effective service.
- The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs
The new walk-in rescue unit will be funded through a 90/10 cost-share arrangement, with the Provincial Government paying the larger portion of the cost. The truck will go to tender soon and is expected to be delivered in 2017.
Minister Mitchelmore joined Minister Joyce in making the announcement at the St. Anthony Volunteer Fire Department.
New firefighting vehicles, such as the walk-in rescue unit announced today, make a very big difference to volunteer fire departments who work tirelessly to keep residents and visitors safe each day. I applaud the work of the St. Anthony Town Council and the volunteer fire department for their efforts.
- The Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Business, Tourism, Culture and Rural Development and MHA for St. Barbe - L'Anse aux Meadows
The new truck for St. Anthony is the fifth firefighting vehicle announced in recent weeks, with Change Islands, Holyrood, Isle aux Morts and Jacksons Arm receiving commitments from the Provincial Government as well.
Approximately $1.5 million has been allocated this year by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador for the purchase of new firefighting vehicles.
