Minister Joyce Announces New Fire Truck for Change Islands

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, was in Change Islands today to announce a new fire truck for that community.

"The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is pleased to partner with the Town of Change Islands to purchase a new fire truck. The new firefighting tanker, a 400 gallon per minute firefighting vehicle, will replace the 1983 Chev International currently utilized by the volunteer fire department. The new fire truck will significantly improve the level of service offered by the volunteer fire department due to the extra water capacity and reliability."
- The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador

The new fire truck will be funded through a 90/10 cost-share arrangement, with the Provincial Government paying the larger portion of the cost. The truck will go to tender soon and is expected to be delivered in the fall of 2017.

Derrick Bragg, MHA for Fogo Island - Cape Freels, joined Minister Joyce in making the announcement and is happy to see the community's old fire truck being replaced.

"The Change Islands Volunteer Fire Department plays an important role in the community and is in serious need of a new fire truck. The new firefighting vehicle announced today will be a significant enhancement for the department considering the new truck's 1,500 gallon water tank and foam capacity. We look forward to its delivery next year."
- Derrick Bragg, MHA for Fogo Island - Cape Freels

Approximately $1.5 million has been allocated this year for the purchase of new firefighting vehicles. The new truck for Change Islands is the fourth truck announced in recent weeks, with Holyrood, Isle aux Morts and Jackson's Arm receiving commitments from the Provincial Government as well.
