Supporting Healthy Communities

Minister Joyce Reiterates Commitment to Community Projects

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs, today provided an update on the Provincial Government's commitment to community development initiatives which received financial support from Vale in 2015 - including$11 million for a new wellness centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and $4.5 million for a new pool in Placentia.

The minister's comments were prompted by an Official Opposition news release.

"I have, in fact, written to the mayors of Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Placentia to reiterate our government's commitment to these projects and to advise that the Department of Municipal Affairs will administer them. I wish the Opposition had taken the time to contact me and ask about the status of the projects - rather than raise concerns in these communities for no reason whatsoever. I look forward to working with the towns as they move forward to secure other funding partners and begin the design development process."
- The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs

It is anticipated the funding will be made available to the towns in 2017-18, as required by the stage of planning for the projects at that time.
