Nominations Being Accepted for Human Rights Award

The Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Commission would like to advise the public that nominations are now open for the second annual Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Award. This award will recognize an individual who has made and/or continues to make a meaningful contribution to advancing and furthering human rights in the province.

"The second annual Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Award will recognize an individual who is committed to protecting and/or promoting human rights in our province. In our inaugural year, recipients of the award and the Human Rights Champion were individuals who are modest and humble, but also courageous and outspoken in standing up for the rights of those who are deprived of their voices. This is your opportunity to nominate individuals who strive for universal respect for equity and dignity in our province by challenging our laws when they are behind the times, proposing and recommending new policies, but also holding our society's institutions and leaders to account on matters of human rights."
- Remzi Cej, Chair of the Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Commission

The deadline for nominations is October 31. Details, including information on the Selection Committee, can be found online at www.thinkhumanrights.ca. The award will be presented at Government House in St. John's at a special ceremony on December 8, in celebration of International Human Rights Day.
