A Strong Justice System Province-wide

Minister Parsons Seeks Information and Insight into Policing in Labrador

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, is currently visiting a number of detachments of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Labrador. Accompanying the minister on stops in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Hopedale, Nain, Natuashish, Makkovik and Postville is RCMP Assistant Commissioner, Peter Clark, and Randy Edmunds, MHA for Torngat Mountains.

"I'm very pleased to join RCMP Assistant Commissioner Peter Clark to see the RCMP operations in Labrador and learn more about the challenges, issues and opportunities in various communities across this region of the province. The visits to Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Hopedale, Nain, Natuashish, Makkovik and Postville will provide valuable insight into policing and how the RCMP detachments function in Labrador."
- The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General

There are three RCMP districts in Newfoundland and Labrador with 11 detachments in the Labrador District.

"By visiting detachments with Minister Parsons we see firsthand the positive contributions being made by the RCMP in communities. In order to support community safety we must understand the realities of living in small and remote areas."
- Assistant Commissioner Peter Clark, Commanding Officer for the RCMP, Newfoundland and Labrador

Minister Parsons noted that the detachment visits are an important opportunity to work cooperatively with partners and colleagues of the Department of Justice and Public Safety in government's work to make communities and regions safer.

This is the second visit Minister Parsons has made recently to Labrador. Earlier this summer, the minister spent time at the offices of the Department of Justice and Public Safety in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
