Justice Minister Moves to Retain Alberta Agency to Review Dunphy Investigation

The following statement was issued today by the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General:

"Upon being notified that the RCMP had concluded its investigation into the shooting death of Donald Dunphy, I immediately took action to retain the services of the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) to conduct an independent and impartial review of the RCMP investigation. The Alberta Minister of Justice and Solicitor General, Kathleen Ganley, in response to my request, has consented to the retention of ASIRT to perform this review.

“The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to the integrity of the process and full transparency for the Dunphy family and the citizens of the province. Given the very serious nature and sensitivity of this situation it is imperative that all parties seek to achieve a timely resolution. ‎Our government remains fully committed to a public inquiry on this incident at the appropriate time.”
