Supporting Community Health Care Initiatives

Minister Announces Funding for Janeway Foundation as it Celebrates 50th Anniversary

The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services, today announced $50,000 in funding for the Janeway Children’s Hospital Foundation in recognition of its 50th anniversary.

“Over the years, almost every family in this province has had a connection to the Janeway Hospital, either within their own family or their own community. I am pleased to provide this funding that will help ensure the Janeway continues to provide high quality care with state of the art medical equipment.”
- The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services

The funding will be used to purchase an Ambulatory Home EEG System. Currently, children who have seizures that need to have video EEG monitoring may require an admission to hospital in order to have the complete test done. The portable EEG recorder allows children to have the testing done in the comfort of their own home, which can help reduce stress on families.

“The Janeway Foundation relies on the support of our community to ensure that patients receive the best care possible. The holiday season is a wonderful time of year for the foundation. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and all people in the province for their support.”
- Martin Sullivan, Janeway Foundation Vice-Chair

As the only pediatric facility in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Janeway has been providing specialized health care to our province’s sick and injured children for the past 50 years. The Janeway is also the primary clinical resource for pediatric teaching and research.
