Department Invites Applications for Community Addictions Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Grants Program

The Department of Health and Community Services is now inviting applications for the 2016 Community Addictions Prevention and Mental Health Promotion Grants Program. The program provides financial support to individuals, community groups and non-profit organizations interested in creating projects and programs focused on increasing awareness and understanding of mental health and addictions. The application deadline is Friday, October 28.

"Mental health is of critical importance to our government. This program helps promote positive mental health, reduce stigma and support initiatives focused on prevention, harm reduction and treatment. I encourage everyone to learn more about the program and submit ideas to help make a real difference in homes and communities throughout our province."
-The Honourable John Haggie, Minister of Health and Community Services

In 2016, a total of $140,000 in program funding is available. Funding is administered by the Department of Health and Community Services in partnership with the four regional health authorities. Each regional health authority has dedicated mental health promotion and addiction prevention staff available to provide advice and support to interested applicants.

"The statistics show that one in five people will experience a mental health or addictions issue in any year. I want to applaud the contributions of those in our communities who work tirelessly every day to keep the conversation going. Thank you for your dedication and efforts."
- Minister Haggie
